Our History

Originally incorporated on January 21,1971, as The “90th Street West Park Block Association” and filed under the provisions of section 402, article 4 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law, by then corporate secretary, Robert Mattson. The organization’s initial directors of the corporation were Mr. W. Domenique of 44 West 90th, Edward Schwarzar of 35 West 90th, Nancy Ice of 41 West 90th and Jacob Finkelman of 265 CPW.

On March 25, 2003, The block association was renamed to The “West 90th Street Park Block Association and in July of 2003, officially recognized as a 501(c)(4) tax exempt organization.

​

Our Mission

1) To improve and maintain the aesthetics of West 90th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue with particular focus on the care of the trees on the block, increasing the street-side plantings and improving the cleanliness of the street.

​

2) To improve the safety of those living on or walking on West 90th Street, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.

​

3) To include efforts at reducing dog waste, rodent containment or removal, proper garbage handling, and recycling education and support to the extent that volunteer bases and support allow.

​

4) To develop connections between residents of the block that will increase both safety of residents and the volunteer base of the corporation. These efforts may include but are not limited to meetings, a newsletter, social gatherings, a bulletin board, mailings or e-mails.
